Ms. Lorraine Nowakowski joined Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU HWCOM) as a Clinical Specialist in November 2011. Ms. Nowakowskiâs primary responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and implementing Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELPâ¢ health care services, including the mobile van and telemedicine health services. She has extensive hospital and community practice nursing experience, and has been affiliated with many New York City hospitals where she worked in general medicine and surgery, as well as team coordination, administration, and research. At Lenox Hill Hospital, for example, Ms. Nowakowski tracked epidemiological trends and provided HIV education. There, she joined the hospitalâs leadership team, spearheading a national and international nursing recruitment and retention program. In Miami, Florida, Ms. Nowakowski worked at the Cushman School for 11 years as the school nurse and risk manager. Throughout her career, Ms. Nowakowski has focused on community-based prevention and education initiatives, directing and coordinating health and wellness programs. She has promoted healthy eating initiatives and brought farmerâs markets to public and private schools and continues her work on developing partnerships with local schools. Prior to joining FIU HWCOM, Ms. Nowakowski was at FIUâs College of Nursing and Health Sciences, teaching in Community Nursing courses and supervising interprofessional student teams during NeighborhoodHELPâ¢ household visits. Ms. Nowakowski received a Bachelor in Nursing from Skidmore College and a Master in Nursing from New York University.
