Julia Bisschops, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Family and Community Medicine in the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society. She joined the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in December 2016.  She teaches medical students at all levels. She is the Director of the Primary Care Preceptorship, serves as an Academic Advisor, and is one of the faculty advisors for MedSWISH (Medical Students Working to Improve Society and Health). Dr.  Bisschops also participates in the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (NeighborhoodHELP) household visits with medical, nursing, physician assistant, and social work students in underserved communities throughout Miami-Dade County. Her medical practice is at FIU Faculty Group Practice on the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus. After pursuing undergraduate work in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Utrecht, The Netherlands, she went to medical school at the St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Bisschops completed a Family Medicine residency at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Indiana, where she received the Delia N. Miller Award for Service for providing exemplary service during residency. After her residency, Dr. Bisschops joined Miami Beach Community Health Center, Miami, Florida. Dr. Bisschops also has a Master Degree in Biomedical Sciences and Environmental Health from Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
