Gloria Coronel-Couto MD, FACP, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Translational Medicine. She joined Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU HWCOM) in September 2019, where she teaches medical students at all levels, with a concentration in clinical skills and facilitating case-based and problem-based learning. As Internal Medicine Clerkship Assistant Director, Dr. Coronel-Couto is responsible for coordinating clerkship sites, teaching students, and evaluating student performance. She is also an academic advisor for medical students. Board certified in Internal Medicine, her medical practice is at the Florida International University Ambulatory Care Clinic, where she sees patients and supervises FIU medical students.
After pursuing undergraduate work in nursing at FIU, Dr. Coronel-Couto attended medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed an internal medicine residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and was chosen as chief resident. Since 1995 and before joining FIU HWCOM, Dr. Coronel-Couto was involved with the education of future physicians and assisted in building a thriving university-based private practice as a faculty member at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
