Dr. Ebony Whisenant is board certified in Family Medicine. She began her career in medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, Dr. Whisenant devoted her efforts to community health and serving medically underserved populations. She co-founded a community outreach program known as BRIDGE which focused on mentoring inner city youth in multiple aspects, including responsible decision making, education and healthy lifestyles. She traveled to South Africa to participate in a delegation on medicine charged with gaining a better understanding of the country’s barriers to care for individuals affected with HIV/AIDS. The Association of Prevention Teaching and Research named Dr. Whisenant as a Paul Ambrose Scholar.

Dr. Whisenant completed her residency in Family Medicine at Halifax Health Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The unique structure of her residency program allowed Dr. Whisenant to continue her commitment to underserved patient populations and community health, while also gaining additional insight into medical education advocacy. Through her volunteerism in the community at large and participation in various administrative committees related to medical education, Dr. Whisenant developed a passion for not only medical education advocacy, but also mentoring and teaching health professions students about the importance of community service.
In May 2012, Dr. Whisenant joined the Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as faculty in the Division of Family Medicine.
