Medical and Population Health Sciences Education and Research

The Division of Medical and Population Health Sciences, Education, and Research provides education, support, and capacity development in the area of research at HWCOM. We promote the unbiased generation and analysis of data, and the dissemination of research results to serve the educational aspirations of students, the academic pursuits of HWCOM faculty, and the needs of the community.

We provide mentorship, consulting services, research-related training activities, and project logistical support for HWCOM faculty and staff interested in advancing their research careers.

Research

The division conducts research on social determinants of health, health disparities, non-communicable diseases and pediatric emergency care, among other areas. Previously, the division conducted four community surveys in Miami generating baseline data regarding prevalent health conditions and social determinants of health in areas of Miami that were going to be part of the NeighborhoodHELP Program.

Student Clinical and Research Opportunities

The Division of Medical and Population Health Sciences Education and Research conducts and develops the Research Scholarship Course (RSC), a 9-credit course which HWCOM medical students are required to complete. The purpose of the RSC is to develop student competency to perform research (basic, community, clinical) as a lead or co-lead investigator.
