Prospective Students
Fundamental to learning and development is the presentation and acceptance of the Medical Students Standard of Conduct Policy and the Medical Student Honor Code.
These documents formulate the expectations for all medical students regarding their current and future relationship with patients and colleagues as well as the commitment each physician must make in contributing to an improved society. They specify what constitutes unethical and unprofessional conduct such as plagiarism, cheating, dishonesty, theft, falsification of documents, violations of confidentiality, mistreatment of patients, and unlawful activities.
The Honor Code demands that medical students tell the truth, live honestly, advance on individual merit, and demonstrate respect for others in the academic, clinical, and research communities. The Honor Code further defines what constitutes cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, sexual harassment and/or discriminatory practices, violation of confidentiality, as well as the medical student's participation in the Honor Code system. It additionally identifies how faculty and administrators will participate in the Honor Code system.
The Standard of Conduct Policy and the Honor Code represent the first exposure our medical students have to our education and character building.
