In an effort to secure highly-qualified matriculants, the College will participate in the "Early Decision Program" in conjunction with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) guidance. It is expected that the College would fill only a small portion of its entering class with highly-qualified applicants through the Early Decision process.
Students seeking Early Decision at the FIU College of Medicine will apply by August 1 to only the FIU College of Medicine, by designating only the FIU College of Medicine on the AMCAS application. Although the AMCAS deadline is August 1, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. If the student meets the minimum criteria (3.7 overall GPA and 32 combined MCAT), and is otherwise acceptable, the student will complete a Secondary Application. The complete application includes all required supplemental information. The deadline for completion of all supplemental materials is August 1. Interviews for selected students will take place during the month of September. Early Decision applicants will be notified of the COM's admission decision by October 1st. Accepted students are then obligated to attend the FIU College of Medicine if offered a place under the Early Decision Program.
If not accepted under the Early Decision Program, applicants will automatically be placed in the regular applicant pool by the school. AMCAS is so notified and the applicant may then apply through AMCAS to additional schools along regular application timelines.
Deadlines and details on Early Decision Program requirements are included in the applying section of this website.
