PhD Program in Basic Biomedical Sciences
We would like to welcome and introduce you to research opportunities and graduate programs at HWCOM. Florida International University’s strategic vision is to be a leading urban public research university focused on student learning, innovation, and research. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies FIU as a Research University with High Research Activity. FIU is currently constructing a new Science Classroom Complex with a vivarium that will support HWCOM’s mission to foster research to discover and advance medically relevant knowledge. The Office of the Associate Dean for Basic Research and Graduate Programs has the responsibility for the education of graduate students and prepare them for biomedical sciences careers in academia, industry and the public sector. We provide medical students with opportunities in laboratory research that will train them to apply the best available scientific evidence to clinical practice.
The graduate faculty are members of the four basic science departments, Cellular Biology and Pharmacology, Human and Molecular Genetics, Immunology, and Molecular Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Areas of research excellence include cancer biology, environmental sciences and toxicology, infectious diseases, and reproduction and development.
