- Biography
Dr. Carla Lupi is Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Assistant Dean for Learning and Teaching at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and Director of the Osler Friday Course in the third year. She received her B.A. in Human Biology with an emphasis on health policy from Stanford University, and her M.D. from the University of California at San Francisco. She completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and during subsequent years in local private practice served as Medical Director of the local Planned Parenthood affiliate. Her experience in medical education includes clinical and classroom teaching in a variety of formats and settings, course direction, mentoring, educational administration, and development of faculty, residents and students themselves as educators. She has published research and educational modules on ethics and communication skills teaching, and presented nationally on the resident and student training in family planning, evidence based medicine, and evaluation of communication skills. She has also served as a tutor for the Duke University faculty development program Teaching and Leading EBM and on the USMLE Ob/Gyn Test Materials Development Committee. She has received numerous teaching awards, most recently the national 2009 William P Herbert MD Promising Educator Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
